THOUSANDS of people will converge on a North-East car plant at the weekend for adrenalin-fuelled entertainment, including monster trucks, motorbikes and BMX performers.

The Nissan Extreme Torque Show will be staged at various arenas at the Nissan plant in Washington Road, Sunderland, on Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26.

The Extreme Drift Series will be held through the day. Judging is based on line, angle, speed and show factor, drifting is an exciting competition, demonstrating the skills and agility of the drivers and their cars with an outright winner at the end of the second day.

In the Monster Arena, trucks Extreme and Lil’ Devil will compete to prove they are the best car crushing monsters in Europe.

In the Bike Arena, the street bike gang will showcase their skills performing stunts including wheelies, burnouts and stoppies.

Warming up in preparation for the event, Brett Penfold of Durham, today (Thursday, May 22) smashed the world record for riding a mountain bike over nine oil barrels, backwards and forwards. The record stood at 28 seconds and he did it in 15.13 seconds. He will be attempting to break the record again over the weekend.

The BMX arena will feature riders trying to out-perform each other with bunny hops, barspins, 360s, tailwhips, flairs and the backflip.

Gates open at 9am with arena acts from 10am to 5pm.
