SPORTY and arty students at a Darlington school have had their efforts recognised.
The Year 7 football team at Hurworth School is celebrating a league and cup double - but teacher Michael Garmston is keen to keep his young charges' feet firmly on the ground.
The youngsters scored more than 30 goals and conceded just one in six games on their way to the Darlington Schools league title.
They followed that by completing the double, with a win over their Longfield Academy counterparts in the final of the Town Cup.
Asked whether he saw any potential future Messis, Rooneys or Ronaldos among the young crop, Mr Garmston refused to speculate, in case it led to a case of over-inflated egos among the budding players.
Meanwhile, the Year 7 cricket team enjoyed excellent form in an Under 13s cricket tournament held at Darlington RA, in Brinkburn Road.
In a shortened form of the game, in which all players take a turn bowling except the wicketkeeper, Hurworth came top in a tournament featuring senior schools from across Darlington.
Elsewhere in the school, exam work by art and design students is brightening up corridors and walls around the school after going on display as part of an exhibition.
