MILITARY uniforms from the First and Second World Wars will go under the hammer next week.

The uniforms are among a large collection of vintage clothes and accessories to be auctioned off at Addisons in Barnard Castle on Thursday, May 29.

Auction-goers can also expect a selection of high-quality men’s and women’s garments created by some of the fashion industries most exclusive designers.

Featuring a mixture of ceremonial and service dress, the military uniforms primarily represent The Yorkshire Hussars and The Royal Horseguards; now the Blues and Royals section of the Household Cavalry.

The latter is the second most senior regiment of the British Army and is the military base of Princes William and Harry.

Marella Darvill, from Addisons, said: “We are expecting a great deal of interest in these uniforms not just because they come from such prestigious regiments but also because in this 100th anniversary year of the First World War there is a keen following in military history and memorabilia.”

Other highlights include two Ascot hats by the famous milliner David Shilling, Gina Fratini evening dresses, an Amanda Wakeley wrap top and a 1970s red cape by Yves Saint Laurent.

The collection will be presented at the end of the Antiques and Interiors Sale, which starts at 10am.

Viewing at the saleroom is on Wednesday, May 28, until 7pm and on the day from 8am.
