POLICE are trying to trace a couple who were driving a car which knocked over a teenage boy.

The 13-year-old boy suffered a broken leg in the accident in Annfield Plain, near Stanley, County Durham, and the pair helped him get home to his parents.

However, they left without exchanging details and police are now asking them to come forward.

The accident happened on Neale Street at about 4.45pm on Friday, May 2.

The couple, described as a man and woman aged in their twenties, were driving what is thought to be a red Vauxhall Corsa car which was about two years old.

PC Phil Hardman said: “We believe that the collision occurred when the boy stepped out into the path of the Corsa. He sustained a broken leg as a result of the accident.

“The couple we are attempting to trace assisted the boy in returning home to his parents, who understandably were more concerned with tending to his injuries than exchanging details with the driver of the car.

“We would like to speak to the driver and passenger of the vehicle so that we can comply with the necessary regulations relating to road traffic collisions, and would ask that they get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Phil Hardman, from Durham Constabulary’s road policing unit, on the non-emergency number 101.
