SCHOOLGIRLS took part in an engineering day to encourage them to consider a career in the industry.
Nine girls from St Leonard’s Catholic School, Durham City, and North Durham Academy, Stanley, took part in the Women into Engineering initiative at New College Durham.
They made bridges, built circuit boards and more.
Ian Gaskill, the college’s head of technology, said: “This type of event is very important for the college to challenge and inspire girls to consider a future in engineering.
“There is a current shortage of engineers, particularly females, and we are committed to helping them to explore options available to them in this field.”
Jade Atkinson, 15, from Sherburn Hill, said she was keeping her options open but engineering sounded very interesting.
