DRAGON’S Den star Duncan Bannatyne has apologised after being caught using his phone while driving.

Mr Bannatyne tweeted that he had been stopped by police this morning (Sunday, May 18) after dropping his son off at a cricket session.

A tweet from @DuncanBannatyne said: “Busy day so far. Dropped son at cricket. Got stopped for using mobile in car. Missed train. So! Tell me how your day has been so far!!”

The confession saw the entrepreneur come under fire from other social media users, with one person responding by saying: “It’s the law for a reason! People and kids get killed, thought a family man would know better.”

Hours later, Mr Bannatyne, whose business HQ is based in Darlington, tweeted again to say the incident had been ‘very stupid’ and pledged never to do it again.

He then issued a statement saying: “It was a momentary lapse for which I apologise.

“It is not right to use your phone while driving and I will of course pay the fine.”
