BRAINPOWER will be harnessed in a bid to help the Samaritans this month.

Teams will be pitted against each other at the charity’s annual Big Fat Lots of Fun Quiz, taking place in Darlington on Wednesday, May 28.

The Northern Echo’s editor, Peter Barron, will take on the role of quizmaster for the event which will be hosted at Darlington College from 6.30pm.

Entrance to the quiz includes tapas and costs £10 per person or £50 for a team of six, with all proceeds going to the Darlington and District Samaritans.

The charity works tirelessly in the community to help people in need of support, advice or a listening ear.

Last year, Darlington Samaritans responded to almost 25,000 phone calls, more than 3,000 emails and more than 3,000 text messages.

The charity’s work largely depends on a devoted team of volunteers who work in a variety of roles, from fundraising to listening to callers.

Tickets for the quiz are available from the Samaritans branch on Woodland Road, Darlington College or from Gloria Wilson on 07803-581746.
