TRIBUTES have been paid to a murder victim who has been named by police.

A 30-year-old man from Middlesbrough has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Simon Joseph Bennett.

Mr Bennett, 28, from Middlesbrough, was found with serious injuries in The Greenway, Thorntree, at 11.30pm on Thursday, May 8.

A post mortem revealed the cause of death is likely to be a single stab wound. It is believed Mr Bennett was a father.

One online tribute from Stuart Wilson said: “Still can’t believe you’re gone, mate. Totally gutted. There will never been anyone else like you.”

Another from Mark Green said: “Big voice, big personality. You’re going to be missed. RIP Simo.”

The 30-year-old charged with murder is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A 19-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Cleveland Police have been making searches in the Homerton area of Middlesbrough in connection with the investigation.
