Young drivers think they are better than the average, despite under 25s making up a high proportion of accident statistics
THE majority of the region's young drivers think they are better than the average driver, a study has found.
According to a survey by Vision Critical and the Institute of Advanced Motorists, 79 per cent of the North-East's young drivers think they are better than the average driver compared with 66 per cent in Yorkshire and Humberside.
This is despite statistics showing they are two and a half times more likely to be involved in a serious crash than drivers in other age groups.
While drivers under 25 make up just eight per cent of the UK’s total number of drivers, they account for 22 per cent involved in serious injury and fatal crashes. They also drive, on average, about half the distance of older drivers each year.
