A LEAGUE chairman is urging all northern football fans to support a County Durham team in their second Wembley final in three years.

West Auckland Town will take on Hampshire-side Sholing in the FA Vase final at the home of English football on Saturday (May 10).

It will be the second time in three seasons that West have made it to Wembley and they will be hoping to make it six final wins in a row for Northern League sides.

League chairman Mike Amos said he never tires of travelling to London to see northern clubs battle for trophies.

But he urged fans to show their support lest the FA decide it is no longer viable to hold the FA Vase final, the premier cup competition for amateur sides, at the 90,000-seater stadium.

Mr Amos said: “We need bums on seats, as simple as that.

“It is every player’s dream to play at Wembley and every fan’s ambition to see their club play there, but the future of the FA Vase final being played at Wembley is on a knife edge.

“I would urge fans from across the North East to make the trip and show the FA why it is so important the final remains there.”

West Auckland’s 2-0 loss to Gateshead-based Dunston UTS in 2012 attracted 5,000 fans, while 15,000 went to see County Durham’s Spennymoor Town beat Tunbridge Wells in last season’s final.

Mr Amos said: “You never get tired of going to Wembley, it is always exciting especially for the communities in which the clubs are based.

“It will be very sad for both players and fans if the final is moved.”

About 5,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s game kicking off at 3pm.

Tickets cost £15 for adults and £5 for under 16s from ticketing.thefa.com.

West Auckland’s club shop will also be open from 7pm on Tuesday (May 6) and Wednesday (May 7) to help fans buy match and travel tickets as well as Wembley merchandise.

The club has arranged for Compass Royston coaches to take fans to and from London on the match day.

The buses will leave West Auckland at 6.30am prompt, places cost £24 and must be paid for in advance from the club at westaucklandtown.com.
