TWO bishops’ wives have spent a week trying to live on £1 a day.
Rosemary Butler, the wife of Bishop of Durham Paul Butler, and Elisabeth Bryant, the wife of Bishop of Jarrow Mark Bryant, committed to surviving on £1-worth of food as part of Unicef’s Living Below the Line challenge.
Mrs Butler said: “We are doing this to highlight extreme poverty across the world. There are 1.2 billion people living on this kind of budget each day and we want to highlight that while also raising money for Unicef.
“The message is that we should not take things for granted. We have too much choice and we need to learn to live more simply. By us eating too much, others are going without.”
