A PLAY telling the life story of much-missed comic Eric Morecambe will visit the North-East next week (May 8-10).

The Olivier Award-winning play Morecambe is the centrepiece of the Gala Theatre Durham’s summer programme and runs from Thursday, May 8, to Saturday, May 10.

It stars Bob Golding and Eric Morecambe’s son Gary, the play’s associate producer, said: “Bob is a family friend and never fails to astonish us with his knowledge and understanding of my father.

“On stage, his performance captures the spirit of Eric and cleverly delivers the important bits of his story in a whistle-stop tour of his life that is quite astonishing to behold.

“I never get bored of watching him in full Eric flow and am delighted to be a small part of the team bringing back this unique performance to theatres around the country.”

There are performances each night at 7.30pm and a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Tickets are £17 for adults, £15 for concessions and £13 for Gala Friends. To book, visit the Gala box office, go online to galadurham.co.uk or call 03000-266-600.
