VISITORS to one of the most spectacular landscapes in Britain could soon be seeing pink.

A fun promotion for the North York Moors, Howardian Hills and Yorkshire Coast will see lost sheep in pink jerseys popping up around the area.

And businesses, groups and individuals in the area are now being reminded they have May 20 to register their sheep.

The idea is to display models of sheep in pink jerseys at various locations and visitors must spot at least three and report their sightings on a website to be entered into a prize draw.

The event runs from June 20 to September 20 and aims to increase visitors to the area and encourage people to explore different places.

Prizes range from accommodation and free days out at key attractions to local produce and a transparent pink glass bowl from Gillies Jones Glass.

The National Park’s head of tourism Catriona McLees said: “From knitted creations to an earring made for a local jeweller, the ideas for pink sheep have been coming thick and fast.

“It promises to be a really exciting campaign offering people an added incentive to return again and again to the area and to discover new places.

“I would like to thank all those who have signed up so far, particularly the many businesses who are supporting the campaign through sponsorship and by offering prizes.”
