Thieves have stolen cable from the central reservation of Darlington ring road.

The cable is related to the ongoing road works on St Cuthbert’s Way and was stolen in the early hours of Thursday (May 1).

Police are appealing for information and can be contacted on 101.

CULT FILM: A 1954 Japanese period adventure drama is the next screening organised by Darlington Film Club.

Seven Samurai follows the story of a village of farmers that hire seven masterless samurai to combat bandits who steal their crops.

The film has been described as one of the most influential ever made and will be shown at The Forum on Borough Road on Tuesday at 8pm, admission £3.

BANK TIME: Yorkshire Bank in Darlington has increased its opening hours in response to customer demand.

The branch, on High Row, will now also open from 9.15am to 1.15pm on Saturdays.

SECURITY MARK: Police are urging residents to mark their garden ornaments to make them easier to trace if they are stolen.

The better weather has seen an increase in thefts from gardens across the borough and police recommend that residents etch their postcode onto the base of their ornaments and planters.

CLOWNING AROUND: Tommy Bungle the clown will be entertaining the bank holiday crowds in Darlington town centre on Sunday.

He will be at the Market Cross monument at Market Square at noon, 1.30pm and 3pm.

The popular Darlington Sunday People’s Market will also be in town - on Blackwellgate and High Row - between 11am and 4pm.
