HUMMERSKNOTT Academy students are challenging Darlington businesses to take part in a charity tennis tournament in aid of St Teresa’s Hospice.

The school’s annual mixed doubles tennis tournament, which takes place on July 2, will see students pitted against teams from across the area during the Wimbledon fortnight.

Last year’s tournament raised £150 for the hospice, with the Hummersknott team made up of Rory Gaydon and Jess Hartley taking all the plaudits.

The school’s team is hoping to defend their title again this year and Stephen Cheeseman, active manager at Hummersknott Academy, said: “Last year was a huge success, and we are looking forward to replicating that.

“As a school, we are delighted to support local charities and the tournament will provide a great opportunity for people to test out their tennis skills and raise vital funds for a great cause.

“St Teresa’s Hospice is a fantastic charity that does so much to care for people in need, and we are delighted to once again support them at the tournament, which should prove to be an enjoyable and fun event.”
