A WOMAN admitted to feeling sick when she had her head shaved for a care home which she regularly visits.

Brenda Ridley has been attending the Leonard Cheshire home day service at Bradbury House in Crook, County Durham, for 18 years, and said she wanted to give something back to the charity.

Mrs Ridley from Bishop Auckland raised £250 by getting her head shaved this afternoon (May 1).

She said: “A lot of people raise money for the home, some are running, some are cycling, some are just keeping quiet, but I cannot do any of those.”

Before the shave Mrs Ridley said she felt quite nervous while during it she felt sick and thought she was having a panic attack.

But once volunteer Mark Eversedge completed her new look, Mrs Ridley said she was pleasantly surprised.

She said: “It does not look too bad, I’m sure it will be worth it.”

Mrs Ridley said her husband Alan had offered to pay her to keep her hair, but she said: “I had to go through with it.

“Besides, I no longer know what my natural hair colour is as I’ve been dying it that long, this will be a good way to find out.”

Staff and volunteers from the home recently completed the Muddy Mayhem challenge raising £300.

Volunteer coordinator Debbie Parker said: “Brenda has been brilliant, she loves her hair so having it all cut off is a big deal for her, we are very proud of her.”
