A CLASSIC car show will be one of the attractions when a college stages its spring fair on the outskirts of Durham.

East Durham College is opening its Houghall campus to the public on Sunday May 18.

The Houghall Classic Car Show is expected to attract more than 100 cars. Famous models featured are likely to include the MG, Jaguar, Mini and Lotus.

The fair will include horse displays, dog agility and grooming demonstrations, falconry and bird of prey displays, demonstrations of floristry and sheep shearing, a climbing wall, Punch and Judy shows, archery, trampolines and facepainting.

Small and exotic animals will be on display including meerkats.

Durham Constabulary’s Dogwise event will be at the show, giving advice to dog owners and doing displays of police dog work..

A college spokesman said: “Potential students will also be able to come along and learn more about our specialist full-time and part- time courses at the Houghall campus as well as apprenticeships.

“East Durham College offers a wide range of land-based courses in agriculture, animal care, arboriculture and forestry, environmental management, equestrianism, floristry, horticulture and amateur gardening.”

The event is from 10am to 4pm and admission costs £5 per car.
