CHILDREN at a rural school are aiming to be on song for a performance at Durham Cathedral.
Class 3 pupils at Middleton-in-Teesdale Primary School are taking part in the cathedral’s music outreach programme.
During the coming weeks, they will work with co-ordinator Mish Kelly and the cathedral choristers before joining pupils from other schools involved in the programme for a performance in front of family and friends at the cathedral in June.
Ms Kelly visited Middleton-in-Teesdale for the first time this week to begin rehearsals.
She is also working with staff to ensure singing continues to play an important part in school life after the concert.
Deputy head Tessa Fenoughty said: “As well as the singing, this is a chance for children from our rural school to find out what life is like as a chorister in Durham.”
The music outreach programme began in 2003 and now works with schools in Durham, Sunderland and South Tyneside.
