A COMMUNITY arts centre has received a £4,500 donation towards its summer carnival.

Social housing provider Livin has donated the cash to Greenfield Arts in Newton Aycliffe, for the Cutting Loose Carnival, a celebration of live music, dance and costume.

The event was a success in 2012 and this year’s festival, at West Park, on Tuesday, July 15, looks set to be bigger and better than ever.

Over the next few months, young people will be hard at work creating art work, props and routines for the event and visitors can expect a wide range of live performances.

Katy Milne, director of arts and creativity at Greenfield Arts, said: “We are really pleased today to receive this funding for our community carnival based Cutting Loose event.

“We are looking forward to the event in July and all of the fantastic community activities beforehand.

"I would also like to thank our other funders for their support for the project.”

Cutting Loose will be directed by Unfolding Theatre and is project managed and developed by Greenfield Arts.

Funding comes from Great Aycliffe and Middridge Area Action Partnership, Great Aycliffe Town Council, Livin, NHS and Greenfield Arts.
