A TOWN Crier led the traditional St George’s Day celebrations in one North-East town today (Wednesday, April 23).
Darlington Town Crier Peter Stemmer joined Darlington’s Mayor and Mayoress to raise a toast to the Patron Saint of England and share the patriotic merriment with passersby.
Glasses of port were handed out to shoppers, as well as red roses provided by Darlington florist Flowers by Nattrass.
Darlington Citizen of the Year Lol Degnan and Young Citizen of the Year Danny Stevens also joined in the afternoon celebrations at the market cross monument by the Market Square.
Councillor Charles Johnson, the Mayor of Darlington, said: “It’s a real pleasure to recognise St George’s Day with a toast and we hope to continue in this tradition for many years to come.”
