STAFF at a supermarket have been left shaken after a man wearing a Halloween mask and pink gloves burst in and stole money.

The masked raider struck at 9.45pm on Good Friday at Sainsbury’s on The Avenue in Chester-le-Street.

He jumped over the till, demanded and took money before leaving the store.

Detective Inspector Gavin Heckles, who is leading the investigation, said: “The shop assistant has been really shaken by this incident and I would request anyone with information to come forward to help catch this man.

“He is wearing a distinctive Halloween mask and pink gloves, do you recognise him?”

The man is described as being white, over 6ft tall and of stocky build, wearing dark trousers and long sleeved white cotton shirt.

He also had on a white Halloween style mask and black bandana around his head to keep it in place.

The man is believed to have run from the store down Fife Avenue in the direction of the train station.
