A TEENAGE girl who was seriously injured when she was knocked over by a car has improved and is now in a stable condition.

The 14-year-old suffered head injuries when she was hit by a car at Fir Tree, near Crook, County Durham, just after 3.30pm yesterday.

The Great North Air Ambulance was called to assist the North East Ambulance Service and the girl was treated at the scene by a doctor-led trauma team before she was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.

Her condition at that time was described as critical, but she has now been moved from intensive care into a general ward at the RVI.
