The body of a man was recovered from the River Ouse in York this morning by police who have been searching for missing soldier Tyler Pearson.

The body was found at about 11.05am today at Skeldergate Bridge in the city centre. The bridge was closed to pedestrians as the body was recovered.

The identity of the body has yet to be established but the family of the missing 18-year-old have been informed of the discovery.

The teenager, a signaller based in York, went missing in the early hours of April 3 after what is believed to have been an attempt to deliberately swim across the river near Ouse Bridge.
