NEW jobs have been created at a pub given a new lease of life thanks to one of its benevolent locals.

Businessman Alan Hardy bought the Bridgewater Arms, at Winston, near Barnard Castle, from the brewery to enable chef/landlord Paul Grundy to return to the pub he had made a success of since first taking the reins in 2008.

Now, two full time roles have been created, one of which sees Mr Grundy reunited with chef de partie Tobias Biggs.

The pair worked together before the restaurant's closure in July last year and Mr Grundy's temporary absence from the pub.

A restaurant manager, Verity Naseby, has also been appointed to take charge of the front of house team.

In addition, a number of part-time jobs have been created both front of house and in the kitchen.

Work has been completed at the pub to remodel the kitchen and redecorate the restaurant and bar. After a two-week closure, the restaurant is now open again.

Mr Grundy said: “It’s really good to have Tobias back in the kitchen and to know front of house is in great hands with Verity.

“It’s been enjoyable to welcome our customers back. The reaction since we reopened has been fantastic.”

Mr Grundy has also introduced local beer from Mithril Ales, based in Aldbrough-St-John, as well as Durham Gin, distilled in Langley Park.

Details of opening times and table booking arrangements are available online at the pub's new website www.thebridgewaterarms.com.
