A TEENAGER is raising funds for a military charity as she bids to win the Miss Durham title.

Rebecca Armstrong, 17, of Spennymoor, is one of 20 finalists selected for the competition, which is based at Sedgefield Racecourse.

Miss Durham is backing the ABF: The Soldiers’ Charity. The entrant who raises the most money for the charity gains ten extra points in their quest to win the competition.

New College Durham student Miss Armstrong, of Upper Church Street, said: “I have arranged an Easter raffle for the ABF. I’m also selling t-shirts for the charity.”

Tickets are 50p a strip and the t-shirts are £5 each. Miss Armstrong is selling the items and they can also be bought at The Penny Gill pub, in Spennymoor.

The raffle is to be drawn at the pub, on Cheapside, on Easter Sunday (April 20) at 2pm. The final of Miss Durham is on Saturday, April 26, at the racecourse.
