EGG hunts and a harp concert are just two of the family activities planned for Auckland Castle over the Easter break.
Youngsters can turn tree detectives to learn how to measure, identify and date some of the oldest trees in Auckland Park with the help of Durham Wildlife Trust on Tuesday, April 15.
Children of all ages will be able to explore more than 150 acres of wooded parkland with three days of outdoor Easter egg hunts planned between Saturday, April 19 and Monday, April 21.
The castle will be holding special Easter craft sessions where children can create their own masterpieces including making Easter bonnets and baskets.
On Easter Monday, April 21, visitors will be serenaded by harpist Louise Bradly in the chapel.
Children are also invited to help find the castle’s furry mascot Bosley Boar, based on the local legend of a young and impoverished knight called Richard Pollard, who is said to have killed a monstrous boar that plagued Bishop Auckland in the Middle Ages.
Auckland Castle is open to the public from 10.30am to 4pm every day, except Tuesday. Admission is £8 for adults, with children under 16 going free. Anyone who fills in a consultation questionnaire will receive a £4 discount.
