A SUPERMARKET has handed over £1,000 to a variety of voluntary groups and clubs as part of its community outreach work.

Trimdon United Football Club, Sedgefield Community Hospital, schools and a host other not-for-profit organisations have received cash donations from Sainsbury’s in Sedgefield.

The donations, from the Sainsbury’s Community Budget Scheme, have been used for everything from raffle prizes to football strips.

Store manager Shaun Dixon said: “Our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important we can play our part to support it.”

The Community Budget Scheme is partially funded by Bag for Life sales.

Nationally, Sainsbury’s has donated more than £600,000 to charities and community groups.

Last year, in-store fundraising, including bag-packs and collections, raised a further £9,500 in Sedgefield.
