YOUNG athletes have been impressing scouts and coaches as they take their chosen sports to a higher level.

Northallerton College has had seven budding sport stars selected to compete at area level and use their skills to take on the best from other regions.

Eleanor Hore, 15, Georgina Smith, 16, Jake McNaughton, 15, Bryony Harland, 19, Oliver Walters, 14, Jasmine Pearson, 16 and Lois Farndale, 15, will form part of the respective area or county squads in a range of sports, including football, rugby, netball and hockey.

For football striker Jasmine the selection represents a winter change in direction from javelin, another sport she excels in.

“I was scouted to play for Middlesbrough Academy and I love it,” she said.

“I am using the strengths from all my other sports and transferring these skills to my football. I would love to play for England ladies one day.”

Joining her in the girls’ football area squad will be goalkeeper Lois and left mid-fielder Georgina, while goal-shooter Bryony will be part of the U19 netball squad and centre forward Eleanor the U16 hockey team.

Striker Jake will be part of the area football squad and fly-half Oliver Walters has been selected for the county rugby squad and the England Rugby Development Player Programme.

Head of PE Anna Harvey said: “They have the skills, determination and self-belief to compete at the highest level and this dedication will ensure they have the right mind-set to succeed in everything they do.”
