A VILLAGE is planning to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.
Members of the parish council in Evenwood, near Bishop Auckland, decided the anniversary, at the beginning of August, should be marked.
Chairwoman Barbara Nicholson said: “We have always been proactive in acts of remembrance.
“There is the memorial garden which is used for Armistice Day and I think we need to do something for this commemoration.
“It could be something like planting 100 bulbs – we just need some ideas.”
Coun Nicholson is to canvass opinion in the village and report back to the parish council's May meeting.
