A UNIVERSITY student died after falling into a North-East river during a night out with friends.

The body of Sope Peters was found in the River Wear, in Durham City, by a member of the public five weeks after he went missing.

The 20-year-old Durham University student had spent the evening drinking with friends on October 29 and was last seen alive on CCTV outside Osbornes Bar, near Elvet Bridge, just after midnight.

At an inquest into his death today (Wednesday, April 9) coroner for County Durham and Darlington, Andrew Tweddle recorded a verdict of accidental death.
