A SUSPECTED unexploded bomb found in a North-East street was found to be a training device.
Army bomb disposal experts from Catterick Garrison were called just before 3pm on Sunday after the device was found in Chopwell Park, Gateshead.
As a precaution, a cordon was put in place.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “A bomb disposal unit from Catterick attended the scene to examine the object and it was established to be a training device, posing no danger to the public.
“Public safety was the main priority throughout and officers worked to ensure minimum disruption to the public.”
Police said they would like to thank local residents in the area of Coquet Street and Mersey Street for their patience.
