GREEN-fingered fans who visited the first open garden of a national scheme have helped to boost good causes.

Bob and Stefa McManners, of Etherley lane, in Bishop Auckland, took part in the National Garden Scheme (NGS) and welcomed visitors for two hours today. (Sunday, April 6)

This is the second year that they have taken part in the project and Mrs McManners said: “The NGS wanted a show of Spring flowers.

“We have had a steady flow of people through the garden and some of them have travelled quite a distance.

“It’s nice to share the garden when there is a nice show of flowers.”

Visitors to the garden paid a small entry fee which the NGS is to share among charities and good causes.
