NURSERY staff put their best feet forward for a fundraising walk to help the mother of one of their pupils travel to London for an operation.

Six members of the team at Daybreak Private Nursery, in High Etherley, completed a circular 7.5mile route from and to the nursery.

Manager Joanne Hardy walked with colleagues Jill Lowe, Lynn Snowdon, Sarah Graham, Rebecca Gate and Rose Warren, whose daughter Emily also took part.

Parents sponsored the walkers who raised more than £200 for the family of two-year-old Esmie Lowes.

The money will help her mother, Laura, from High Etherley, cover the costs of travelling to London for treatment for a bowel condition.

Mrs Hardy said: “On the day Esmie came along to set us off, we encountered rain, snow and sun and people were very supportive along the route and donating sponsorship money.

“We wanted to do something to support one of our families, Esmie has been with us since she was about four months old and we want to make things a bit easier for Laura.”
