SPORT RELIEF: Pupils at the Federation of Mowden Schools, in Darlington, raised more than £6,000 for this year’s Sport Relief appeal by gathering sponsorship to take part in the Sport Relief mile and attending school dressed as their sporting hero. Alison Cockerill, speaking on behalf of the school, said: “We raise money for different events but this is a very high figure. We wanted people to know what the kids have achieved and thank their families and friends for their donations.”

LECTURE EVENT: Adventures in high places in Scotland, Norway, the Alps and the Himalayas will be the subject of a talk by mountain guide Martin Moran in his illustrated presentation to Darlington Lecture Association on Monday, April 14, at Carmel RC College, in Darlington. EASTER FAYRE: Rise Carr College, in Eldon Street, Darlington, will host an Easter Fayre for members of the public to raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service. Stalls will include refreshments, cakes and items for sale and an Easter egg competition for youngsters. The event will take place on Saturday, April 5 between 10am and noon.
