A DARLINGTON gym is challenging its members to join a fitness challenge that could result in a school winning new exercise equipment.

The Dolphin Centre gym has seen a 127 per cent increase in its membership numbers since a re-fit last year.

Members are being asked to join a challenge being run by Technogym, which supplies much of the equipment in the gym.

The Let’s Move campaign launches today (Friday, April 4) and runs until May 2.

A gym spokeswoman said: “The centre will be up against 22 other gyms in the UK that have Technogym equipment and will compete to see if Dolphin Centre customers can work together to generate the most moves in the country.

“Moves are the measurement unit for movement adopted by Technogym.”

The winning gym will be able to donate fitness equipment to a school or community group.

The prize also includes a session of professional training for PE teachers and a seminar for the students, parents and teachers on the importance of an active lifestyle.

Interested schools can contact the Dolphin Centre to be in with a chance of winning.

They will be expected to support the campaign by encouraging parents to spread the message about the challenge via word of mouth and social networking.

In the event that the Dolphin Centre wins, a school will be drawn at random to receive the prize.
