PUPILS at Darlington’s Polam Hall School put on a fang-tastic senior school production this year.

Zombies guided the audience to their seats for a dazzling production of ‘Dracula Spectacula’, a modern classic with a sizzling score and hilarious script.

The show was a big feat for the small school, it took nearly six months to put together and involved staff, parents and over 50 pupils aged 11 – 18 years.

Headmaster John Moreland commented: “The school show is a great way to involve students with different talents and passions in one project. It teaches them about time management, planning and organisation whilst having fun. The finished production was fantastic.”

The show took place in the school’s own theatre and was a high-tech affair with smoke machines, a live band and professional lighting.

Miss Joanne Graham, director and head of drama at Polam Hall said: “It was brilliant fun putting the show together. It required a lot of hard work and commitment from pupils who have balanced rehearsals with their academic studies.”

The leading characters, Miss Nadia and Count Dracula, were played by A and AS level drama students Jemma Vincent, 17, and Richard McNamara, 17. The theatrical pair were also assistant directors.

Jemma said: “It was really exciting to perform. The whole school worked together on the show and it was a great way to get to know new people.”

Richard said: “This was my first time in a lead role so I am a bit nervous. But it’s been a great confidence boost for me and I am thinking of taking up drama.”
