A CANCER support group is seeking donations to fund days out and lunch outings.

Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group is asking companies and individuals to donate or fundraise to help provide activities for people with cancer in the Newton Aycliffe area.

Allison White, who founded the group, said: “Some people with cancer feel low because they go to hospital all the time and have to return back to the same four walls.

“By organising day trips and lunch outings we hope to stop that from happening.”

The group’s next meeting takes place at Neville Parade Methodist Church, at Neville Parade, Newton Aycliffe, at 7.30pm on Thursday, April 3.

It will feature guest speakers from health charity Healthwatch and Tadea UK, a charity that helps people get the best gas and electricity tariffs.

“We plan to do activities to help people gain confidence, as many people lose confidence when diagnosed with cancer,” said Ms White, who has raised £10,500 for cancer charities since being diagnosed with leukaemia in 2009.

“We are such a friendly group and if you don’t want to come alone you can bring a friend.”
