A TEENAGER who mistakenly thought he had won £1m on a football accumulator is hoping that with his help others might be a little luckier.

Jordan Donnellan correctly predicted the outcome of 14 matches last weekend and celebrated believing he had hit the jackpot.

But Ladbrokes told the 19-year-old barman, from Consett, County Durham, he had filled in the wrong coupon and his £1 bet was invalid.

Now, Mr Donnellan, who works the Coach and Horses pub, has been asked by The Northern Echo to predict the outcome for the five North-East teams this weekend.

He has studied the form of Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Darlington, with his forecasts earning him odds of 100/1 on an accumulator from BetVictor.

The bookie has supported the effort by offering a £50 charity bet in support of The Northern Echo’s '£100,000 For Our Heroes' campaign for a new centre at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire to help servicemen and women suffering from physical and psychological injuries.

Mr Donnellan, who is going through the RAF application process and hopes to become a firefighter with the service, said: “I would be over the moon if I do get this money for the charity.

“The soldiers are out there fighting for us so it is good that we are supporting them as well. Anything that helps them is good.”

The campaign is raising money to set up a new Wellbeing Centre at the Phoenix House Recovery Centre at Catterick, which is run by Help For Heroes to support Army veterans and their families.

Charlie McCann, from BetVictor said: “Jordan has obviously made an honest mistake and we wanted to give him the opportunity this weekend to raise some money for such a worthy cause by giving him the opportunity to predict all five local sides results, concluding with the Black Cats on Monday.

“We have rounded the odds up to 100/1 so that Jordan can, if successful, turn his £50 free bet into £5,000 for Help For Heroes.

“It would be fantastic if he was able to turn last weekend’s bad luck into a £5,000 donation to such a wonderful cause.”

Here are Jordan's predictions:

Newcastle to draw with Southampton

West Ham to beat Sunderland

Brighton to beat Middlesborough

Hartlepool to draw with Cheltenham

Darlington to beat Ossett Town
