POLICE investigating reports of man exposing himself to women and girls in Sunderland have made an arrest.

Over the weekend of Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23, police received reports of two indecent assaults and of a man in a silver vehicle exposing himself to females.

On Tuesday evening (March 25) police arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of outraging public decency. He is in custody helping with enquiries.

Sunderland Chief Inspector Jerry Pearson said: "We've been carrying out extensive enquiries into these offences and I'd like to reassure people that a man has been arrested and is currently in custody being questioned regarding these offences.

"I'd like to stress that no physical harm was caused to the women and girls concerned, however, anyone with information or who has concerns should speak with local officers."
