IN some affluent areas of North Yorkshire men can expect to enjoy 10 more years of ‘good health’ compared to those living in less affluent areas of the North-East, according to new figures.

The statistics published by the Office for National Statistics also showed that those living in the most affluent areas also lived longer.

Nationally the area covered by Guildford and Waverley Clinical Commissioning Group, in Surrey, had the highest healthy life expectancy with men expected to have 70.3 healthy years of life and females 71.3 years free from serious illness.

The areas with the lowest healthy life expectancy at birth was in Bradford City with 52.5 years for men and 51.6 for females.

Harrogate in North Yorkshire had the highest figure for healthy life expectancy in the region for both men (68 years) and women (69.4 years).

Sunderland had the lowest healthy life expectancy in the region for males with men expected to have 58.1 years of healthy life while the Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield had the lowest healthy life expectancy in the region for females with women expected to have 59.5 years of healthy life.

Harrogate shared the distinction of having the longest overall male life expectancy with Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby. In both areas men could expect to life 80.6 years.

Women in Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby could expect to live for 84.3 years, the longest life expectancy in North-East and North Yorkshire, Sunderland also had the lowest overall male life expectancy of 77 years and the lowest female life expectancy of 80.7 years.
