STROKE survivors experiencing problems with speaking, reading, writing or understanding are being invited to free workshops.

The Stroke Association has organised the event to take place in Northallerton on Tuesday, April 8.

It will involve workshops to help with conversation techniques and staff will also be on hand to answer questions about life after a stroke. In addition, the Stroke Association team will also be testing visitors’ blood pressure and providing information on stroke prevention.

Anybody who has experienced a stroke, or is caring for someone who has, is welcome to attend the free event. It will be held at The Forum, on Bullamoor Road in Northallerton from 11.30am until 2pm.

Tricia Richardson, information, advice and support coordinator at the Stroke Association, said: “About one third of stroke survivors have difficulty with speaking, reading and writing, and it can be frightening and frustrating.

“The workshops have been created to help support stroke survivors with aphasia as well as their families and carers.

“The event will also give people the opportunity to meet socially with other stroke survivors. Our co-ordinators will be on hand throughout the day to give advice and information to anyone who has been affected by stroke.”
