YOUNG people from across Darlington were welcomed to Polam Hall School’s careers convention.

As part of National Careers Week 2014 the Darlington independent school joined forces with representatives from over 40 different professions who spoke with young people about their line of work and offered careers advice.

Local and regional businesses involved included the Royal Air Force, Deloitte, Cleveland College of Art & Design, St Teresa’s Hospice, Camera A Photography, Harvey & Hugo PR and many more.

Head master John Moreland said: “Our careers convention has been a fantastic event again this year. It’s great for young people to get advice from professionals and to have the support of so many local businesses from different and unusual industries is brilliant.” The convention was a great success with many young people networking with businesses to get advice and guidance which will impact upon their GCSE and A Level choices.

Delegate Liam Bradley, marketing and recruitment officer from Cleveland College of Art and Design commented: “The Polam Hall Careers Convention is an event we always come to. It’s great to speak with pupils and parents about many of the art and design courses we offer and the amazing career paths they can lead in to. Something which is quite often unrealised before this point.”

Polam Hall pupil Philippa Hirst, 16, said: “Today has given me a valuable insight into a lot of different careers. I’m still unsure what I want to do so it’s great to find out about a variety of careers from people currently working in them.”
