DARLINGTON Borough Council is tickled pink to be supporting Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

The authority has worked with the charity to turn the town centre’s landmark clock pink to support the launch of the Darlington Race for Life this week.

The popular event takes place in the town’s South Park on June 8 and it is customary for Cancer Research UK to officially launch individual races in each area 12 weeks before they take place.

Councillor Andy Scott, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for health, said: “Turning the clock tower pink is a fun way to remind people about the Race for Life.

“So many people’s lives are touched by cancer.

“Whether you decide to take part in the race yourself or sponsor someone, please try to get involved.

“The event is an ideal way for all the family to take part, have some fun and raise money for a much needed cause.”

Race for Life events are also taking place this summer in Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Sunderland, Durham and Newcastle.
