They then lost in final play-off on penalities to Red House School, Sunderland.

PE coordinator Iain McCulloch said: “The team played exceptionally well in every game against some tough opposition, showing an incredibly determined attitude throughout.

“I'm delighted at our success in sport so far this year, which has stemmed from the childrens' enthusiasm. We're really proud of everyone who's taken part.”

The success on the hockey pitch was followed by the school’s football team winning the Swaledale League and Swaledale Cup, with keepers Harry Davies and Dan Norton not conceding a single goal for the whole tournament.

The team won 2-0, 4-0 and 3-0 against Melsonby, Middleton Tyas and Arkengarthdale respectively.

To cap off the success, the year six boys won a recent cross-country competition at Catterick Racecourse.
