POLICE have arrested a suspected prowler after being alerted by a member of the public.
Officers were called to Park Road South, in Chester-le-Street, in the early hours of this morning (MON) after reports of a man behaving suspiciously.
The suspect, who had been spotted in the garden of a house, was found down the side of a house next to cars parked on the drive.
Police said an attempt had been made to force access to one of the cars and the man was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft and going equipped to steal.
He was also arrested on suspicion of two shoplifting offences in the town.
