A 13-year-old girl has been seriously injured after being hit by a car at a crossroads.

Whitby Police are appealing for information about the incident at the junction of East Barnby Lane and Goldthorpe in the town at 8.25am today (Friday, March 14).

The collision involved the girl and a white Fiesta Zetec, which was heading from Whitby to Redcar.

She was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough with serious injuries, where she remains.

Traffic Sergeant Pete Wood, from the force’s Roads Policing Group said: “If you witnessed the collision or noticed the vehicle or girl just prior to the incident, I urge you to contact the police straight away.”
