TWO men were arrested after drugs were found in their car after it was stopped by police.

The car was stopped at 10.50pm on Friday, (March 7) in Portsmouth Road, Pennywell, Sunderland, and officers found a quantity of drugs when they searched it.

As a result, a house in Pennywell was also searched and more drugs were found. The drugs - believed to be cocaine - are thought to have a street value of £7,500.

Two men , aged 47 and 38 , were arrested on suspicion of drug offences and helped police with their enquiries. They have been released on police bail.

Superintendent Jim Napier, of Sunderland Area Command, said: "The harm drugs cause to those who take them as well as the people around them is well documented and we will continue to work with other agencies to tackle the issue.

"On a daily basis, officers will routinely target those suspected of being involved in drugs and drugs supply to disrupt the supply of illegal drugs."

Anyone with any information, or concerns, about illegal drugs in their area should call Northumbria Police on 101, extension 69191. They can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
