PUPILS have designed food wrappers as part of a school project to educate youngsters on the benefit of Fairtrade goods.
Children at Chilton Primary School created the designs as part of Fairtrade fortnight which runs between Monday, February 24, and Sunday, March 9.
Sainsbury’s and the Co-op, in Chilton, both gave £10 of Fairtrade goods to the school for the scheme and the Gateway World Shop Durham gave Traidcraft items.
Parents will visit the school today (Friday, March 7) to view the pupils’ work. Mark Roberts, the school’s assistant headteacher and Fairtrade co-ordinator, will outline the scheme’s work.
The pupils are to be given a free goodie bag of Fairtrade items to take home.
Christine Samways, the school’s business manager, said: “We hope that this raises the awareness of the Fairtrade system.
“The children recognise Fairtrade now and hopefully they will now buy these items instead of others.”
