POLICE are investigating after shots were fired from a car this morning on a city centre street.
Officers say a vehicle was spotted driving the wrong way down a one-way road on Stowell Street in Newcastle city centre at 4.25am today.
The driver then fired shots into the air before leaving the area. Police say the gunfire was not aimed at anyone and no-one was injured.
A short time later, someone in what is thought to be the same car pointed what is believed to have been a handgun at a taxi driver, although no shots were fired.
Police say it is not yet clear whether the weapon was real or imitation.
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and witnesses are asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191.
