Darlington residents have donated hundreds of pairs of glasses to help people in the developing world.

The town’s Specsavers store has received more than 1,500 pairs of glasses in the last year and the donations are still rolling in.

The unwanted specs are recycled by Vision Aid Overseas, a charity which specialises in providing eyecare for those in poverty-stricken countries around the world.

PARTY TIME: The Scope charity shop in the Cornmill shopping centre is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a party day on Tuesday.

Customers will be invited to enjoy a slice of birthday cake and there will be a range of activities instore throughout the day including a tombola.
